Autumn is the main character in my upcoming novel, Autumn's Five Seasons: The Men. She is a young woman with a lot to learn. She's complicated in her own way, yet easy to understand. While it's easy to relate to her, don't confuse that with agreeing with her choices. You might, but she's a naive young lady with lessons to learn. One reader saw Autumn as a classy woman with a smutty edge. While another one described her as a little maddening.

Day One: It was Christmas Eve and I woke up out of my sleep in a cold sweat. I was startled awake because of a nightmare. I won't bore you with the details, but it was the worst kind. You know, the realistic kind that you could actually picture happening and thanks to my personal inner night theater, I saw it too. My youngest heard me scream as I awakened.
Forgiveness is a topic we tend to mull over. Whether to forgive or not is always a hot topic that's up for discussion. While I'm a huge fan of forgiving someone that has slighted you, that's not what this post is about.
Alice Benton's Blog wishes you a happy Kwanzaa! May your days be filled with joy as you celebrate the principles! God bless.

You're in the holiday mood and you don't want the festivities to end. Well, they shouldn't because today is the first day of Kwanzaa! It was founded by Dr. Karenga in 1966 and is an amazing way to jump into a wealth of wonderful knowledge. Kwanzaa's official days of celebration are from December 26th to January 1st.
Happy birthday, Jesus! And, let me say Merry Christmas to all of you! Let's all take time to remember what God has done for us. It's truly a joyous day filled with ultimate love for everyone.

What if you woke up tomorrow and there were no presents? You didn't receive any gifts and couldn't afford to buy anyone anything? What if that Christmas tree you treasure was destroyed? And, your favorite holiday music that put you in a jolly mood was unavailable?
As the year comes to a close, friends have told me their thoughts are all over the place. They're trying to deal with holiday tasks, but instead, Christmas is handling them. Some are lost in a sugary candy cane heaven, while others have mentioned end of the year woes. They try to move on, but haven't been able to really focus on what's next.
This is for my wine wine connoisseur friends! While I would love to count myself among you, I'm no wine expert, yet, but I'm hopeful to join the ranks. For now, I'm just a person that loves a good glass of wine. I'm taking in great information and learning all about it.
I had been sitting up late, as I often do, with the television watching me as I wrote. An inspiration commercial came on that was playing You Raise Me Up. As Josh Groban's voice filled the air I began to feel up lifted. I've always loved that song. It has a heavenly sound. The commercial was a success because I was inspired.
With less then a week left before Christmas, your schedule has probably become worse than usual. You have all of your usual things to do, plus various trips to the mall. How will you get all of this done?
As Christmas celebrations pop up all over town, we begin to think about family and the importance of the holidays. Traditions are both shared and made. Relatives are remembered while friends are included in loving rituals.
This season brings forth a familiar joy. It strengthens bonds and recaps old fashion ways. It is during this time that we remind ourselves that it is important to give. The holiday spirit is also infamous for spreading a great message--peace on earth.
Make this Christmas more special than ever. Remember what it's about and give of yourself. Also, enjoy what the holiday has to offer because you're important too. Spread love!
Happy holidays!

In ways, next year will be "the year of the children." I have several projects that I will be working on aimed right towards the little ones. As such, I pray to be more aware and attentive because children are precious and deserve more attention. It is my wish to bless them and their loved ones.
Today, when I completed a telephone conversation I was left thinking that was not my intention. I intended to be gracious and loving. I intended to bless and strengthen another that had blessed and strengthened me. While I wasn't made to feel negative, I did leave the discussion questioning myself. "What have I done?" I asked. I walked away from this talk wanting to reevaluate my approach.
As the end of the year swiftly approaches, many of us are involuntarily held hostage on an "emotional roller coaster." This ride would clearly be an awesome thriller if it didn't yank you back and forth through life. There are times when we throw up our hands and willing thrust ourselves onto what feels like the ride from hell. And, yes...I've been there. But I say no more!

This weekend, I have been pushing myself. There was a great deal that I needed to accomplish and I did, thank you, Jesus. I tested my limits. I was tempted to drop a thing or two, but couldn't. What responsibility should be ditched? None, of course. When I'm committed to a cause I have to see it to the end.
Today, I attempted to handle many things. As I checked one item off my list, I quickly moved to the next. Then it changed. There were several things that I just couldn't get done. It wasn't my fault, but I still missed the mark.
I could see disappointment lingering in the air. I began to feed into the disappointed feeling that kept coming for me. Generally, I don't give in to it.
If I give something my all and it evades me, it wasn't mine. That doesn't mean give up. It simply means that today was not the day. I'll try again tomorrow because it might be.
There are no disappointments...it's all beauty!

As I was cleaning out my never-ending closet, I placed some items into a box that I was considering selling. Every now and then, I attempt to come up with ways to get better at spending, saving, etc.. And, while there is nothing wrong with doing that, I thought it's the season of Christ. I should be thinking of ways to help His children, after all, that's the type of gift Jesus would want.
Choosing a gift can be a pain for many during the holidays. It's often difficult to pick out what is best regardless of the person. Don't get lost in the gift-giving realm without any helpful hints from Santa. I always suggest listening to the person you want to be thrilled, but if that isn't you don't panic. Below I have listed a few affordable suggestions that would make most happy.
Autumn's Five Seasons is an exciting three book series! The first soon to be released book in the series is called The Men. This novel was inspired by my first book, Black Love: A Book of Poetry & Love and I'm so happy that it's almost time to share it with you.

I love talking about the things I have created. Currently, I am discussing my novel, Beauty in Pain the most. As my second novel, Autumn's Five Seasons: The Men, gets closer, I am talking about that and Black Love more as well. FYI, Autumn's Five Seasons is a three book series!
Lately, I have had some recurring themes play in my life. At first, I barely noticed. Then I thought huh. Next, I said to friend, "I keep seeing this..." Later, I questioned, "What does it mean?"
I've always been a holiday girl, but this year seems more special. As the holidays approach, I'm feeling their much anticipated arrival in an extra personal way. Their year long debut has greeted me in a fantastic manner and I'm loving it.

As the month of December begins, I have been reflecting on this year. It's been a good one. It has certainly had some challenges, but I can't complain. I have accomplished a great deal within 2011. I started this blog and my website, AliceBenton.com. I also published my first novel, Beauty in Pain and wrote a second soon to be released novel, Autumn's Five Seasons: The Men; to name a few.
